Anyone know about this L.A. Agent?

Question:

Hey all!  I need some info on an agency that is interested in yours truly!  It is Dale Garrick International Talent.  Anyone know anything about them????? Good??  Bad??

They’ve been around forever.  Medium okay agency, not a heavy hitter. Better than sticking a lit cigar up your nose.<g   Ed Hooks

I have my cigar here with me and have decided that since this agent refused to represent me, the cigar is my only choice. This is where I need your help, Ed. Which end do I stick, the lit end or the smoking end? Quick, I need an answer, the cigar is about to go out. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hey all!  I need some info on an agency that is interested in yours truly!  It is Dale Garrick International Talent.  Anyone know anything about them????? I turned to the LA agent section and with barely one change of page I found EWCR & Associate. They also have a NYC office. If you have a referral letler, i say that you are in luck. They seem to rep for a variety of fields, inlcuding commercials. Isn’t "The Agencies" published by Breakdown Services, Inc.?  Perhaps they don’t want to bite the hands that buy their listings….though I don’t see how it would hurt them as their materials are pretty much required by agents…… I have seen listings in "The Agencies" that say that certain agencies have been involved in questionable practices (i.e. the "specific photographer" scam, etc., but most of these seem to be written after the agency has been investigated or closed down.  Perhaps the sparkling reviews are due to actors not speaking up when they feel that an agent has done them wrong. Some of us get the old "at least I have an agent" attitude….and don’t want to rock the boat.  What we tend to forget is that the actor/agent relationship is a partnership — and that we pay the agent…they’re working for US.  I think that if the actor should take more responsibility and control over their career.  Yes, the agent can and should advise, counsel, and discuss what’s happening with the actor — but it is the actor that should have the final say in what does and doesn’t happen.  After all, it’s the actor’s career. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -beckynot  wrote… I’ve noticed those books do seem to be kissing up to the agencies they review. I haven’t seen a review yet that didn’t manage to end in some positive note on the agency. Those "the agencies" books have to be taken with a grain of salt. One "agent" I know of personally, has a write up that similarly says "works hard for clients" when in fact she does nothing more than direct you to a certain photographer for pictures. What a joke.

I’d be interested. ok, and what is a mid-level agent? is that a reasonable place to be? should I press for a "higher" level agent? (is there such a thing? or are those celebrity agents only?)

mid-level is good.  Represents co-star, guest-star on tv shows.  Don’t traffic much in featured (under-five) stuff. You’ll discover there is a hierarchy of agents in LA.  The ones at the top, like William Morris Agency, are mainly packagers, putting together the elements for movies and tv shows.;  then you have the upper-mid-level agents like J.Michael Bloom.  They have their nose up a bit and mainly work on guest-star and series regulars.  Next down is your guy.  And at the bottom are the newbies, struggling to get anything on the board they can. It’s a jungle out there.<g Ed Hooks
