In my humble opinion, I would go with the Bachelors degree…it will take a little time " out of your career", but acting is representing a slice of life..and experiencing life is the best way to see how to portray it…acting schools sometimes give you a one focus option…you’re an actor..or technician.. my liberal arts degree in theatre arts gave me a wide base of knowledge…. I am sure there are those that will disagree with me so listen to them and form your own opinion…noone will truly know but you anyway. One further comment…I have found those with a degree o be more happy, and more able to cope than those that just opted to move into a career db

Response:

A degree will give you a qualification that people will recognise but consider this: There is little in acting classes that you cannot learn yourself through study and practice. Also, getting involved in local amatuer dramatics may sound unambitious (and will not start your career in tv/movies) but it is a good training ground for actors.  It teaches you discipline, teamwork, rehearsal technique, acting technique, approaches to material, patience, experience of performance and more.  If you are serious about tv/movies then you should talk to an agent.  Agents have the contacts with the tv/movie industry that we do not have and will find you work in that field.  Be warned – most will take a large percentage of what you earn as a fee. I did try to post this to your previous request on this newsgroup but I guess it didn’t work. I hope you get it this time and I hope it helps. Good luck in what you do. Tom.

Response:

Read "True and False"  by David Mamet  It’s a no holds bard account on acting and some advice on methods of training.  It’s a quick read, but you may want to read it twice for full impact.
