I am a 12 year old actress.
Question:
If anyone can help me start a proffesional carreer, or give me any advice it would would be greatly appreciated. I have been the leads in school plays, and havebeen doing a number of workshops, so anyone if you can help me plese do! I love to act so much, I want more opportunities to! Thank you. If you have any advice or can help me get jobs, write to – A young actress
If you live in or near a major city, and if your parents are supportive of the idea, you could try to obtain a theatrical agent who would send you to auditions for commercials and maybe some movies — when they shoot locally. To get a list of good agents, contact Screen Actors Guild. Be very wary of talent agents who place ads in the newspapers or who advertise on the radio. Any time you hear an ad that says "New Actors Needed!", run the other direction. They just want your money. I was thirteen when I was in my first play and got the acting bug, so I understand your excitement. And I’ve been an actor for almost thirty years! I suggest you continue to act in as many plays as possible and plan for a college education. There is no such thing as a dumb good actor. If you want to read about acting, here are a few books you can seek out:"Sanford Meisner on Acting" by Sanford Meisner, "Respect for Acting" by Uta Hagen and "Impro" by Keith Johnstone. You might also read "The Fervent Years" by Harold Clurman, which is all about the Group Theatre, one of the most important theatre companies in American history. Good luck! Ed Hooks author "The Audition Book (Winning Strategies for Breaking Into Theater, Film and TV)"

Don’t get too eager now! Just because you’ve been in a few plays doesn’t really mean anything. You need years of training, headshots (and a good photographer), an agent, and a whole lot of other things. All of these things cost money (lots and lots of it). I would suggest holding off a few years. Just because you enjoy acting doesn’t mean that you’re ready for an all-out career in it. And, if anything, at least wait till you’re in high school!!! There you can take courses and be in plays. But you are already way ahead of yourself. Take things slowly… Mike
