We also have a lot of people who live and work in Canada as actors that frequent this group.  Give geographical details of where you are and someone is sure to respond. Get into some classes/workshops/training in technique.  It’s another great way to not only get good at your craft, but to meet others and network. As for luck, well, 90% of this business is who you know, and perseverance.  The other 10% is talent.  Sad, but true.  But don’t let that deter you from at least seeking training.  An actor must hone his skills all the time. Also, my first step to recommend to you, would be to get the book "Smart Actors, Foolish Choices" by Katherine Mayfield.  You can order it from my web-site below on the Resources page, and no, I don’t get a kick-back from either Barnes and Noble or Amazon, although I have provided links from both for every book I have recommended. It’s a book that in my opinion, every ‘potential’ actor should read before getting deeper in the business.  She talks about analyzing your reasons for wanting to do this, and fulfilling those needs in other ways than acting.  She also stresses the importance of having a solid life outside of the business. Hope this has helped. Hi Im 24 British living in canada looking into the acting business, trying to see alll the angles the minuses and pluses read a good book by Ed Hooks called "The Audition" well worth getting. And yet here we are, people like me, once non-union, now union. Amazing, huh? Now, why don’t you learn to use your newsreader software in a manner that lets you trim all those excess lines of quotation from the person you’re responding to? —     *                Daly City California                 *     ******* My typos are intentional copyright traps ******

Anybody correct me if I’m wrong: This is how it can work. You don’t have to be union to get on a union project. You can get MINOR roles off the street, very rare, or non speaking extra work (they have a union too).  After three days of union work you can apply. You have 30 days to continue working non-union. Then you HAVE to join if your going to continue working union. You have to pay the initiation fee, about $1500.00,and dues, around $50.00/month. Then you’re union. Only problem, after you’re union you’re not supposed to do any non-union work. Most of the stuff away from LA/NY is non-union. If your AFTRA or Equity there are some reciprocity agreements. To find out exact details look up the SAG/AFTRA/Equity home pages. They all have different rules and cover different areas. SAG even gives minimum wages… One more thing. Find out if you like it. Do some community theater work. See if you can remember your lines, see if you like the 12/18 hour days. Acting is not easy for some. See if you can get cast. Good luck. sorry "Fracture a femur." – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Thanks Guys, man i think its rediculous and i would think they would that there is a catch 20 concerning being part of a Union?yet having to do uniono work how does anyone do it if you ned to be part of the Union to get uninon work yet you need to do union work to get iin?

Where in Canada? You can get started local. You almost need to be union to work in NY/LA but you have to get union work before you can get in the union. Sucks don’t it. I act part time and make pretty good movie. Once I get some union work I’ll move south.
