acting…did someone say acting?
Question:
Can somebody please tell me where in LA can I go to take acting classes for beginners? What is the best way to get started in this business. Any guidance is appreciated, but unfortunately not paid for. — Surf Usenet at home, on the road, and by email — always at Talkway. http://www.talkway.com

You didn’t mention in which part of LA you wish to take classes. Backstage West/Dramalogue published a special issue on acting schools in LA (I don’t remember the date of that issue). May be you can refer it. I work (and used to live) in Westside so I do my classes there. I attend classes in UCLA extension and they are a quarter classes. I am also studying with a Diane Salinger, who teaches at her home, but her teaching is not very methodical (for me), so I’m exploring another school in Santa Monica (Piero Dusa). If you need any more information or phone numbers of these schools, feel free to send me an email (remove "nospam" from my address above). Cheap, readily available [sometimes weekends, or nights] and classes should be starting in the next week or so, depending when they start their semesters. Karen

You might check out Playhouse West. They have a program for beginners, I think. And for some career guidance, visit my web site at http://www.best.com/~edhooks. You’ll find a page there titled something like "How to Get into Acting." (funny…I can’t remember what I named the page.<g) Anyway, listen, I think you should reconsider this business about a "beginning" acting class. Have you ever been in any plays? If so, you are already acting, and you just need to get better at it. I personally think "beginning" acting classes, as opposed to "intermediate" and "advanced" classes are more than they are cracked up to be. My classes in San Francisco are mixed-levels, and it works great. New people get to see more experienced actors doing their stuff, plus they get a better idea of the standard they have to hit. I suggest you pick up a copy of Backstage/Drama-Logue and start auditing acting classes. See as many as you can. Educate yourself about what is actually going on before you sign up for "beginning" classes. But if you’re going to do the "beginning" thing, Playhouse West is probably a good place to do it. what about a non-beginner? I think I could still benefit from classes, but I don’t want to take something so basic I get bored to death with it. What do you recommend for someone that has done industrial films, a few student films, and commercials, (but hasn’t done stage for six years) I am going to be moving to LA to see what it has to offer…currently in Chicago…and auditioning a lot.

I was thinking about the Dusa academy could you please give me your feelings about it Thanx Zub
Response:
Try contacting Kimberly Jentzen. She is more of an acting coach. She is very good in fact she even does her coaching on set for some shows and she will go over any sides you may get (if you are lucky enough to get them in advance) to Zub
