Acting, I'm starting out

Question:

I am a 24 year old male interested in a career in acting and movie production. To get a fresh start I have had 500, 8×10 headshots made.  I have a meek (if not weak) resume’ that I will update as my experience permits.  I am ready to begin sending out these headshots with the resume’s on the back of them.  I’m now getting advice from others in the business that a "comp" card would be the ONLY way to go.  With 500 prints burning my fingers what type of "wave(s)" of mailing should I attempt??  I’ll be working locally in Atlanta & the surrounding areas – less than half of my prints.  But, I do want to send them to NY & CA + possibly abroad.  What type bombardment of mail should I try??  Or SHOULD I just wait to get the "comp" cards done & go wild with them??  Anyone with knowledge of this industry can help me greatly by giving me any & all advice.  Thank you,                  -Jeff

Jeff, If you are serious about remaining in Atlanta, then a mailing to LA or NY is probably not a good idea. That said, you might think about Charlotte, NC, where an awful lot of filming and theater work is going on, and it’s closer to you. Carl

hi. i am hoping that someone can show me in the right direction. i am going to be completly honest here… i am 23 years old. i live in arizona,and i want to know where to go to be an actress. i  like commercials,but of course more would be nice. possibly modeling,but i am a very petite person,so i dont know many people who will take me for my height. all i have ever done was acting and run way classes as a child. in hight school took acting classes and my teacher told me i had talent,but i have no idea where to go next. i never went on to college,and truefully,dont think i will. i hope that someone can tell me what to do. thank  you very much..   :O) childcare pen pals
