ISO L.A. Acting Instructor

Question:

There seem to be almost as many acting instructors in Los Angeles as there are actors.  Can anyone here recommend one from personal experience?  I’ve only taken one acting class before, and I’m interested in doing film/TV.    Thanks in advance.

If I were going to take an acting class myself, I’d study with Joan Darling.  Excellent background, coming out of Second City Improv, then to NYC stage, then to LA — as an actor and director.  Directed a lot of the Mary Tyler Moore show episodes, including the famous one about Chuckles the Clown’s funeral.  I’ve audited her acting class, and she’s really marvelous.  Lives in Santa Fe now and commutes into LA for weekend classes.  I think you have to take a series of three or four weekends at a time with her.  And it costs something like $375. This Sunday, 10 minutes from CC Philadelphia, I will do a free 3 hour seminar. I’ll be demonstrating The Whelan Tape Technique and talking about other aspects of New School Acting training. Call 609-854-9395 to reserve a place for yourself. If you’re in the South Jersey area, there is a big article about the school in today’s (12-9) Courier Post. If you are not in this area, but would like to know about the tape technique and New School Acting, you can get the techniques from my home page at: http:www.Jeremy-Whelan-Acting.com Hope to see some of you on Sunday. If any of you come, I know you will have to tell people in this group about what you saw. Ciao, Jeremy
