San Francisco

Question:

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Specific questions include: 1. Is there a central meeting place or resource centre for actors in SF (In London we have a place called the Actor’s Centre, which has classes, a cafe and casting noticeboard) 2. What publications should I look up once I’m there, specifically those detailing companies and venues? The friends I’m staying with when I first arrive are non-business people, so I could be a bit lost. Any info would be appreciated.    Thanks,                     Rory O’Donnell 3.

I’ll take a shot at number three, Rory. Answer: Hope this helps. Happy Holidays, Steve Tom http://people.we.mediaone.net/thetoms

San Francisco does not have the equivalent of the Actor’s Centre unfortunately.  There are, however, many acting classes in the city, and you can network there. 2. What publications should I look up once I’m there, specifically those detailing companies and venues?

Callboard Magazine, published monthly by Theatre Bay Area is a must-read.  It carries all the local stage auditions and many of the film notices.  I write the Inside the Industry column for Callboard. Bay Area Casting News and Casting Connection are two other periodicals with casting info.  They focus more on student and independent films. When you get to SF, visit Limelight Book Shop on Market Street.  That’s where you’ll find plays and whatever info about the city is in published form. I have a web site at http://www.best.com/~edhooks that might interest you.  Lot of info on the biz there. Ed Hooks

I posted a long time ago saying I was coming to SF, and asking for any information people could give me on acting there. Thanks to all those who replied, however things got hectic here in London and I wasn’t able to act on anything. Now things are back to normal, and I’m on course to arrive in SF on 11th January, I thought I would post again. Specific questions include: 1.
