Question:
"Louie ..’something’( I didn’t get the journalist’s last name, sorry)…Crazy Weekend."
a – Louis Theroux’ Weird Weekends. b – He’s not a BBC2 journalist. c – I think you missed the point of the programme. — JAF <.co.uk
Response:
As far as I know Louis IS a BBC2 journalist. Before he used to work with Michael Moore ("Roger and Me") who made a simular show for the BBC. Louis did such a good job that they offered him his own show. And yes, I think the earlier poster did miss the point (but we’ll forgive him since appearantly he’s american…). Ron "Louie ..’something’( I didn’t get the journalist’s last name, sorry)…Crazy Weekend." a – Louis Theroux’ Weird Weekends. b – He’s not a BBC2 journalist. c – I think you missed the point of the programme. — JAF <.co.uk

I thought his series’ were from an independent production company, though commissioned by the BBC. But if you say he is actually employed by them, that will do for me. — JAF <.co.uk

Did you see this too? Last week on the Bravo cable channel, they broadcast a BBC 2 show called "Louie ..’something’( I didn’t get the journalist’s last name, sorry)…
Louis Theroux. He used to be a reporter on Michael Moore’s series on FOX, TV Nation. As it happens, he’s on Conan’s show tonight. I am so thrilled that he’s back on TV, even if it’s a cable station I don’t get…the same one that carries Moore’s fantastic new series, "The Awful Truth." – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Crazy Weekend." This BBC 2 journalist went to N.Y. to find out how you become a working actor in N.Y. He met and was given a tour of TVI New York by two ladies featured in this newspiece. One was Lisa Gould, ‘a director’ and the other was Nicole Greenwood, ‘a consultant’… both worked at TVI.(Talent Ventures Inc.) Louie paid Nicole the $385 a year to join TVI. After that he went to a still photographer for headshots, sat in on a ’signing audition’ class & acting class, went on a cruise ship audition and interviewed a 20 year working actor in N.Y. What I found interesting was the pieces that dealt with TVI, exclusively…I listened carefully to what was said and shown( I taped the show) in this piece and I have come to the conclusion that this is an "actor’s factory" along the like of the Barbizon Modeling Schools. I was NOT impressed! This maybe is for some people who need ‘by the hand help’ in acting/modeling and have loads of money BUT I thought these companies supplied basic ‘industry’ information at an expensive premium price! Go to your library and network with other actors/models…It is your choice how you want to spend you ducats, kids! But, you won’t find me there..I believe in getting more BANG for my dollar!
Sounds like Louis was there to expose TVI for exactly what you saw it as. He is wonderful with that dead-pan interview style. On "TV Nation" he did a great job interviewing KKK members without cracking a smile or throwing up. I was impressed. -Amanda

In response to "topactor": This should be my last defense of TVI, but again, based on my experiences they << I have come to the conclusion that this is an "actor’s factory" along the like of the Barbizon Modeling Schools. I was NOT impressed! This maybe is for some people who need ‘by the hand help’ in acting/modeling and have loads of money I’ve never met any models at TVI. I have met many serious, working actors. I once almost got "scammed" by IMTA. TVI is for actors, not models. One of the best measures I’ve used in trying to find good classes in LA is that if I am surrounded by working actors, I’m in a good place. Actors at TVI work. They book guest star and co-star roles on TV, and some great stuff in independent and some feature films. I’m a working actor. And I still learn new things at TVI. I don’t have loads of money and TVI is very affordable. And I can’t go to a library and get information from the mind of someone like Sonia Nikore who is the head of casting for NBC primetime TV. She has been in the business for YEARS and is a great teacher and offers me a perspective on my acting work that is extremely helpful. If someone who oversees the casting for ER tells me I need to make such-and-such adjustment to make a read work, I’m going to listen. A couple weeks ago, my consultant at TVI informed me of a casting director just picking up a new project. I immediately sent a postcard, expressing my interest. A week later I got an audition call. At the audition the CD said one of the reasons I got called in was because of that postcard. If I hadn’t had TVI to keep me posted on such news, I wouldn’t have gotten that audition. That’s not stuff you find in the library or even in the trades. That’s stuff that happens so fast that most of the time you miss it. TVI is in the loop in the industry. They are about a lot more than you’re giving them credit for.
