Question:
What books are best for preparing me for the ‘business’ side of things (choosing an agent, preparation, etc.)
Besides Ed Hook’s required tome, I suggest "Acting Professionally" by Robert Cohen. It is the only book of its kind, in my opinion, that is truthful to the point of pain. By that I mean, all books, every book in the market, will tell you basically the same things, basically the same way. Cohen, however, adds a little "get ready to have your ass kicked" attitude that I really like. No b.s.–no "folow that star" crap–pure "do you feel lucky, punk?" kind of stuff. Lollar
Response:
It’s been several years since I’ve done any acting. Once I might have been considered a decent actor (on the local, East Tennessee scene) with potential. For my own reasons I stopped. I really just need a primer on where to begin (again). I live in the Bay Area and would like to attend some workshops. Who is good? Where can I get good-quality photos, and how do I decide what look is best for me? What books are best for preparing me for the ‘business’ side of things (choosing an agent, preparation, etc.)? Is an acting coach honestly a good idea? Thanks John
