Where's the sportmanship?
Question:
Yeh, only about 40 years. In all but two states, almost 300 different courses. Yes, I’m new to golf. :-)
Well, start acting it then. Your defence of noise in general shows otherwise. Jack

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – It’s obvious you are not a golfer. Maybe a weekend warrior, but not a true golfer. Jack you say that like being a golfer is some great thing…… and you are a golfer? thats how you make your living? thats your job? I’m a decent golfer but not a great one. I do know what proper and polite behavior is though. The way I see it, anyone who expects any golfer…pro or not…to tolerate noise doesn’t know a thing about golf etiquette. Maybe Pete is new to golf. Maybe Pete doesn’t even play.
Response:
I don’t think you got the point of my original post, which makes your comments stupid, not mine. My original point was that both Tiger and his father made this big deal about how his father would startle Tiger, so that he would not be bothered by anything. Your making the assumption that I am not a golfer is stupid, if you ask me. I’ll put my knowledge of etiquette, golf or otherwise up against yours, or anyone else’s.
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Gosh, that hurts. I really considered myself a golfer. Not a good one, but probably as good as most in RSG. I am curious as to why you would say that. And I don’t play on the weekends. It’s like drinking on New Year’s for me. I play almost every day, Monday to Friday though. Then you should know enough not to make such stupid comments. If you expect people, pro or otherwise, to tolerate noise, you sound like a non-golfer who is ignorant about the most basic etiquette. Jack
Response:
According to some of our esteemed British RSG colleagues, only American fans are boorish and disrespectful of the golfers and the game. How could such behavior have occurred on the eastern side of the Atlantic? snip
Probably tourists!!!

How could such behavior have occurred on the eastern side of the Atlantic? On another related topic, there was an obvious contrast to the come-from-behind USA Solheim Cup victory today vs. the come-from-behind USA Ryder Cup victory of 2000. The ladies demonstrated what real sportsmanship was and how to be gracious winners. Hats off to the ladies for a great victory and showing the world how the game should be conducted.
Heve you forgotten the late Payne Stewart’s gesture to Colin Montgomery on the 18th green of the final single’s match ? That was sportsmanship. Brad
