Act accordingly

Question:

If we want to change our world, we must change our selves.  Not the world, not our partner, or our government. If we want to see a huge shift on our planet, we must shift our own perceptions.  Not try to change the perceptions of our friends, our co- workers or our parents.   If we want to stop the war, we must stop the war within ourselves and our own personal relationships.  Just ours.  Not the people in other countries or their governments. If we really have a need to make a difference, it would bring us much pleasure to find someone in our own community who needs to be fed, or hold the hand of someone who is alone.  We needn’t make a huge production out of this and get the whole community involved – just us alone will do.     The 60’s boasted great activism, in the year 2002 we have more knowledge – the knowledge that it all starts with YOU.  There is more to activism than preaching what you would like to see change, or coercing others to vote or hold a sign.  There’s nothing wrong with one approach, but it works much better when coupled with self examination and understanding of oneself. If we want to change the social structure, we must stop participating in what we do not agree in and stop acting like we don’t have a choice.  How can we believe we do not have a choice, while waving an American flag boasting "freedom"?  Maybe if we stopped watching the TV, started living our lives in our own community, within our own families and within our own minds, then we wouldn’t need the drama of war.  Spending our time talking to hear ourselves, priding ourselves on our petty opinions and stifled awareness of the situation at hand is a waste of everyone’s time.   And quite frankly, it’s boring and dull as far as life goes.   We’re all active.  We are active every moment of our lives.  It’s up to us how we each act individually.  Our personal actions speak much louder volumes than the most vibrant sign and the most booming voice.  When you act from a place of power to change yourself then everyone who lays eyes upon you is changed – and that my friends, is how you change the world.
