CLASSICAL monologue (???)
Question:
your right please forgive me. good were my intentions. Stacey – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Oaky, okay…I think we’re dealing with some serious territorial pissings here…. No one rules this roost. Not Opus, Not you, hell, not even me (dammit). So let’s drop it okay? I get enough strife in my daily life. You know Opus, I’ve been seeing you all over alt.acting, The Green Room, and ACT-PRO, and I have yet to find another poster who more frequently misinterprets the essence of another person’s post than you. He didn’t ask ANYONE to do his research for him, …he asked for monologue suggestions. Why do you take every bloody post so personally as if it was directed towards you? The world of alt.acting does not revolve around you and not every request posted to the group is a direct plea to the almighty penguin. If you don’t know the answer, or are not inclined to give it, …then SHUT THE F*CK UP! and don’t berate other people for being nice enough to make the polite suggestions that you are not inclined to. I’m really getting sick of you. -Drama Queen (Soon to be called an ASSBAG huh?) Rude? Now it’s people like you, who read "rude" into a mere statement that says, "Library, search engine." You want rude? Go play somewhere else. We don’t have time to do everyone’s research for them. It’s rude for someone to expect that. There was no need to be rude. Every question is a good question and someone may not realize how it easy it is to find something if they are not told, so that ask. But yes you should be able to find book in the library also you might wan to check used book stores. You can find monologues as well as whole plays for cheap. Also check college book stores and yes there are sites on the internet that you can get monologues for men free but "There’s enough youth in the world, how about a fountain of smart?" ‘A Man for All Seasons’ by Robert Bolt has a groovy court scene at the end with a monologue by Cromwell. ‘The Road’ by Jim Cartwright also has a lot of monologues in it. Anyways, good lock in yer performance. Andy

Ah yes. A new actor or actress will learn that people can be cut throated in this business but if your policy is to let them sink or then that is your choice. But good advise is always needed and never is there a bad question was the statement I was making. As far as helping others that is just something I believe in doing and if it inspires you to do so then great but if not I am sorry. When life gets hard people can either help each other or make it harder for each other. I choose to try to make it easier in a business that I love and is very hard. I just felt that his short statement was rude because It was not clear. It was my opinion not a spam. Stacey – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Rude? ..And here I thought the whole purpose of these discussion groups were to help each other. 58 responses and nobody actually suggests anything?!? Christ. Take a gander at these: Dromio Of Ephesus from The Comedy Of Errors, Act 2, sc. 1…Dromio plays 3 parts as he illustrates the story of being beaten by Antipholus. Never fails to get auditors laughing, even when they’re stodgy, if its done right. Much Ado…II.iii, Benedick’s discourse on marriage. A couple of good Benedick speeches to choose from in this one. Henry V…(sorry, don’t have the book in front of me, can’t give act or scene)…find "Once more unto the breach…" or "Today is the feast of St. Crispian…", to start. They may be a bit daunting depending on your experience level, so look also at the King of France: "Think we King Harry strong…" Considering your age range and making admitted assumptions on your experience level, look also at anything of Romeo’s or Benvolio’s in R&J, and Horatio in Hamlet ("What if it tempt you toward the flood, my lord…"). Also the Mechanicals in "Midsummer" if you’re comically inclined. Steer clear of most of the Big Guns until you’ve had some classical experience under your belt and can tackle them. Of course, read and study the play in its entirety. Don’t dismiss Cliff Notes, they can help a beginner understand the basic idea of the play AS LONG AS YOU USE IT AS A SUPPLEMENT ONLY. Read the play. Steer clear of watching a film version until your craft is such that you can not let it influence your choices. Develop a thick skin now regarding actors’ cattiness. It’s very natural for actors to become wrapped up in themselves and forget that they probably recieved substantial help from others at some point in their career…people want to believe they did it on their own. Karma is huge in this game though; what you give out will always come back to you, eventually. Hope I could help…let me know how these suggestions work out.
