Jim Carey, a word about 'im.
Question:
As an actor, when Jim Carey first came on the movie scene, I was a little bit offended. Jealous might be a better word.
Actually jealousy is not in my vocabulary when it comes to other people’s accomplishments. I just first considered his entrance (as an actor) as a mockery of the profession, not unlike getting a football star who can’t act at all to do movies. (re: OJ). As a comedian I was deliriously happy. Generally if someone gets a major role, I think to myself, "I wonder what it took to get them there"… and sometimes I even congratulate them under my breath, even if they don’t really need it, because the parts now come easy to them. And yes, there is a Canadian wacky humour. Look at Second City Television (SCTV), "This Hour Has 22 Minutes", and "Kids In The Hall". All good examples of the "wackiness" in Canadian humour. Even "Royal Canadian Air Farce" has quite a few "wacky" moments.

<whispering Shhhh, …so what, eh …he’s a Canadian. Let’s just let it be our secret, OK? Oh, I forgot, you’re not a Canuck. (frown) Maybe, if you lead an honourable life, doing good and selfless works, …you might be able to come back as one :^) *hee hee* -Drama Queen Arguing with The Starmaker is like arguing with a fool. -The Starmaker

Jealous might be a better word. As a comedian, it was a little different. I was glad Canadian Wacky humor was going mainstream.
None of us knew it was Canadian Wacky humor. But all that aside, after watching his performances in Liar Liar and The Truman Show, I had a LOT more respect for him as an actor.
I’m sure mr. carey will be thrilled.
Response:
Grudgingly, I’ll go only so far as to admit he’s improved. I only saw parts of Truman, and he was much improved, but there’s an awful lot to be said that his real talent lies in taking roles that really are written with him in mind, much like that god-awful Tom Hanks. When he succeeds in a role that is against type, then I’ll buy him as a good actor. * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet’s Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet – Free!

On another note, I heard there have been friends of the late Andy Kaufman that have said that at times during the filming, they got the impression that Jim was actually channeling the spirit of Andy. That he did little idiosyncratic things, that only those closest to Andy would have known about or even recognized. Publicity ploy?

As well I later came across one of his other "acting" jobs, a made for TV movie in which he played a gay man with AIDS. These all made me feel better about this particular Canadian being called an actor. Well, now he’s made it so there is no embarrassment left in the acting field of him. The next movie, Man On The Moon, which is a sure-fire winner at almost any awards ceremony I would hope, is the story of entertainer Andy Kaufman. I haven’t seen the film yet, but from what I have heard and seen of it, it is definitely something worth getting into seeing. Only reason I bring up this, is that I myself look at what other people do so that I might improve my method of acting, perhaps pick up something. This movie looks like something many people might be able to learn from. Hope ya don’t mind the suggestion.

*giggle* Me too! On another note, I heard there have been friends of the late Andy Kaufman that have said that at times during the filming, they got the impression that Jim was actually channeling the spirit of Andy. But since Jim IS Canadian, it definitely makes it worth a looksee. ;^) -Drama Queen
