Pictures from RSG-Wisconsin 2001

Question:

I’m still writing a report on RSG-Wisconsin 2001, and that will appear sometime later today, computer willing. But in the meantime, I have the pictures done and put up on a website. They will take a bit to load–there are a lot of them, but it’s not as big as Randy’s RSG-Atlanta page :) –so just wait a minute or two for it to load if you have a slower connection. The location is:  http://www.dalecki.net/rsgwis/ I hope Mystery Valley looks as good as the one’s you’ll  played.

The two courses at Lawsonia are great!  I was there at the same time, but I was with some others from Dallas so I didn’t get the chance to join the RSG-Wisconsin guys.  I did get the chance to meet a few of them though! The Links course requires a long and accurate tee ball and some very precise iron shots to those elevated greens.  The Woodlands course is 180 degrees opposite as it winds itself through the trees and hills around the Links.  A definite "must play" if you are ever nearby. Make Birdies, it’s easier that way! Mark

Response:

Dustin, Go to one, man.  Just pick one and go to it.  You will not be sorry.  You won’t believe the fun you’ll have and I promise you that no one will care about your golf game. says… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Pretty cool. Definitely a nice looking course compared to these plain-jane courses here in North Central Florida (Gainesville to be exact). Flat as pancakes. Oh well. I would love to go to one of these RSG events but fear that my pathetic golf game would just piss people off :-) I’m still writing a report on RSG-Wisconsin 2001, and that will appear sometime later today, computer willing. Take care of yourself Mike… I have money riding on you! ;-) RJ … – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – If you’re scouting me for Crazy Eights, I’m a wild card.  My new swing actually worked yesterday (I was very pleased with it), and I did get some of the distance back.  If my back/shoulders recover by Saturday, I’ll probably score pretty well; if they’re still keeping me up at night, then I’ll have to baby it. No scouting, participants can’t win AND I’ve already sent in my entry. I was just hoping that you would loosen up since I know how frustrating a back or neck injury can be when you are trying to swing a club. I went out to the range tonite, it wasn’t too bad.  Played four holes, too, and hit some drives.  Still long.  Had a 275-yarder.  About a 260-yarder.  So I was able to turn on the ball and get it out there. I’ll see the Chiropractor tomorrow, take it easy with the overhead work, and I think I’ll be OK in Atlanta.  I won’t shoot lights-out, but I think I’ll be respectable.  And if Mystery Valley is as wide open as Randy says (and as I’m hoping he means :) , then the added length will help. After the heat and humidity at Lawsonia (probably a notch below Atlanta, but we were walking, too, so maybe that evens out), I discovered a side benefit:  I can get loose in a hurry!  My back tightened up at Lawsonia just because of the combination of too much golf and walking.  I’m sure the warmth will help me in Atlanta. That great tile was made by none other than RSG’s own Don Doyle.   He also did the coffee cup, and one other item that I cannot show you yet.  He’s got a business doing that kind of thing, and I thought the prices were remarkably reasonable.  The tiles, if memory serves, are $5 apiece for minimum 10.  Any kind of artwork you can get on a web page is something he can put on a tile.  The quality was far better than I would have expected for such a reasonable price–but you can see that in the pic. He’s got other stuff too–the coffee cup, for example, and other doodads.  You’ll see one of them in a bit, as I promised not to show it to anyone until a particular deadline had passed. I think you way overestimate how much that matters to people at these events.  As long as you move along, and employ etiquette, I don’t believe most people care about your score The winner of the Cheesehead trophy–Gary Hayenga–said the secret to his success yesterday afternoon was no triple bogeys. However, he did note that he had an OCTUPLE bogey earlier in the day. And you know what?  Gary is a great guy to golf with.  And he beat me. :) Just remember that nobody cares as much about what you’re shooting as you do. And meanwhile, pick out an event, and GET THERE. Friday wasn’t bad.  Saturday was pretty humid, esp. on the Woodlands course where there were few breezes.  I’m sure I drank about a gallon of water on the Links course in the afternoon.   The only advantage to the heat and humidity (other than being very loose, at least for a while) was that when I stood over my putts, the sweat would drip off my nose and onto the putter while I lined it up. It’s how I could tell if my eyes were over the ball or not.  :) Mike Was it as steamy over there as it was here in the twin cities?

The location is:  http://www.dalecki.net/rsgwis/ Mike Good pics, Mike.  Were you able to swing or are you still suffering from do-it-yourself injuries ?

Thanks, David.  It was a fun outing. My swing was so-so.  I really took it easy on Friday night, just wouldn’t unwind–I was afraid of regressing.  Even so, I shot a 96, which wasn’t too bad since I was giving up 30-40 yards on drives and 20 yards on every other club.   Saturday morning, for a while, I got it back.  I hadn’t had too bad a night after the first round, so I took some pain medication and began to loosen up.  I had a bad front nine (51) because I had no swing that I could rely on, but on the second nine it wasn’t too bad (42).  I actually got the swing back, and while I was still short, it was more reliable.  But I was still afraid to turn on the ball like I know I can do. The third round was better in ballstriking to begin with but worse in scoring.  On the first hole I hit an elevated green from 200 yards with a 3-wood but couldn’t hold it, dropped down behind a big berm, three putts, six. But I started to lose it again about the 7th hole.  I had a bad stretch for about 5 holes, the back tightened up.  Too much golf in two days with a questionable back.  I hit a lot of good shots, but too many where the back interfered, too.   On the 18th hole last evening, though, I decided to cut loose.  I cranked a 285-yard drive which felt very nice given that I’ve been wimping it on purpose to favor the back.  From 190, I hit a 3-wood, which I expected not to get all of (given the back, you see).  Well, I had a super swing, turned on it very nicely, put the ball over the green in the back bunker, against the back lip.  Took a six again.  :) If you’re scouting me for Crazy Eights, I’m a wild card.  My new swing actually worked yesterday (I was very pleased with it), and I did get some of the distance back.  If my back/shoulders recover by Saturday, I’ll probably score pretty well; if they’re still keeping me up at night, then I’ll have to baby it. How’s that for a definitive prediction?  :) I’m going over to the range after supper to see how things are doing "back" there.   Mike Mike Dalecki  RSG-Wisconsin 2001 Info:  http://dalecki.net/rsgwis I do not patronize spammers!  Help keep RSG clean.
