Uprooting the stumps of trees & gardening in general
Question:
Haven’t been on the NG for a while…. Guess what I did today…. The company had a summer picnic today ( ok, it was postponed until now to reasons out of our control ). They selected a recreational place nearby. It was great. Following the indications of a co-worker, I found a cliff nearby. And the urge of climbing it got stronger and stronger. So, defying the signs that said "no tresspassing.. violators will be prosecuted…" I proceeded to climb this nearly vertical cliff about 200 feet high. It is truly an activity that you can fully accomplish alone. No peer pressure ( actual or assumed ), no distractions… You can at any time decide that another path is better than the one you earlier selected…. Loneliness has its advantages… If I had a family and/or other responsibilities, I might have thought twice about this idea. But being a party of one, I didn’t have to think about it. Maby times, my thoughts were that God has my ife in his hands, and if it pleases Him to take it away, he really could. So I really climbed in faith. With no experience, a bad knee, and no equipment I passed some difficult overhangs, without too much trouble. God had strategically placed some trees growing in the cracks of the rock, that I was able to use to pull myself up a couple of times. So I am now officially a cliff climber. ( sort of ). Back at the party (2 hours later) , I finally jammed a finger playing basketball !!! So, how was your day ? "Eleonore Beaudoin" <bc…@FreeNet.Carleton.CA> wrote in message

Hi, Ollie! I did not know if your server was back on and did hesitate before deleting your words. But kept the wishes on of the reply I had made to yours:) How’s your Sunday? We ARE Sunday, right? Someone tell me what day we are? I started housecleaning yesterday and might find my turtle, never know, under some of the piles of papers and junk here and there…Doubt it, but never know. My feeling is she must be outdoors, or so is my hope anyway, as otherwise, she might starve to death. They can be a long time without eating, but it was mid July when she disapeared, so…My fear is to find her dead in the basement one day, where I yet checked a good 20 times under everythign and had Kiddo check too for more assurance she would be found would she be there. So I hope she is outdoors, found water, was not tortured by teens:(, and had time to build herself her protection house for winter….She actually left on time to do that, as apparently, those turttles are safe if out before mid July at the latest to have time to prepare for winter. That one had one of her paws frozen white two years ago, in the episode where the furnace motor burtn and the landlord did not replace it, when the house was condemned, and me in the streets. I could not sleep there but went there each day till 2 A.M. and back at 5 A.M. to put the oven on and the portable heaters to make sure the pets would not freeze. It was 50 below then:(. Cats were at the vet as their tail and ears would have fallen… Since the aquarium water did not freeze with my heating up the house as I could, I never expected her to have frozen a leg, but one showed white and lifeless. Gave her many massages to try and bring some life back into the leg, and it worked. But the leg must have stayed more sensitive to cold… I just hope she is okay… Chloe "Wing Commander Sandcastle" (sandcas…@sandcastle.worldonline.co.uk) writes: – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Blimey, I didn’t know there was a thread about this. > Siamese portcullis radishes! > OTS > dan, dhrm77 <___none…@hotmail.com> wrote in message … >>"Eleonore Beaudoin" <bc…@FreeNet.Carleton.CA> wrote in message >>news:8qua6i$rtm$1@freenet9.carleton.ca… >>> "dan, dhrm77" (___none…@hotmail.com) writes: >>> > This was a great thread, I don’t know why it faded so fast ! >>> Cause no one cares about turtles, boohoohoo;-) >>Don’t cry my prefered canadian friend….. >>I do, I do care about turtles, and squirels and rabbit, and chipmunks, and >>alouettes, alouette, je te plumerais… je te plumerai le bec… et le >>bec… et le bec…!!! (Hiding my pigeon before you "plumerai" whatever feathers he has left;-):)). Odd memories flashing on that tune. Somewhere in time a bunch of visitors at the farm, young adults, anglo, (20?) were singing Alouette but singing it laughing at us French Canadians that warmly had them over as guests, which made their mockeries double rude. I then started singing with them, where they sang back whatever "bird part" -or so they thought- I woudl say I would "plumerai" in the invented strophes of the song I made up as it came. Little did they know, so filled with their arrogant self, what we made them sing we would "plumerai" them of, heheheeh:), while they went on singing sure they were laughing at us when the joke ended up backfiring on them all that time. Those were my big bad Chloe days:), where my parents tried to not giggle at how I made the thing be turned around while our guests were so sur they were not the idiots:). I remember mom then serving their plates and so on with a big smile replacing her hurt feelings at such mean and arrogant display, and dad, who had stopped cold at the bar-b-q, instantly opting to sing wholeheartedly and joyfully like everyone else around, with the arrogant visitors that acted so fresh in thinking they were laughing at the idiots they mistook us for that they thought were so wholeheartedly made mockery of, not realizing we were "singing back" all right:). Heheheeh:). Baaaad, Chloe, baaaad;-):). But mainly, my parents were happy that what could have been instigating host/guest unrest was made a joyful civilized moment where two nations could so joyfully share in singing in such exhuberant unisson. Trudeau (God save his soul) would have been utterly delighted;-):). <self-incisive snips> >> > >> I just never know when to give up hope;-). > I don’t know about 300 eggs …..!!!!

Racoons are also known to dig for eggs that way… I am now wondering if any other animal/amphibian/creature lays eggs in the sand like turtles. The eggs my turtle laid were about the same size as some chicken eggs, but much rounder. Exact same size and shape as a ping pong ball, maybe a touch bigger. I found over 100 left in the aquarium when I cleaned it once, where many had broken or decomposed, for having been laid under water:(. The smell gave it away:(. >> >> Salutations and best wishes, both for work and for liveliness this > week! >> >> Pampers and Huggies, >> >>Chloe

No. Not so far anyway…. I however caught the other on time that had also left the aquarium and seemed to be going for a walk in the house, wehre that one never had done that before and was freaking out to be in such a wider space than the aquarium itse;lf. I had to *run* after it, and then calm her down once bacjk in the aquarium where she had lost the notion of "space" and depth, and seing her image reflected on the aquarium glass acting like a mirror, would try and swim right into it thinking it was more space behgin that reflection:(….She was running to hide under a secretary desk I have in the entrance, where I ahd looked thousands of times for the forst one, but wehre lkooking again, I came to the same conclusion:L the other was not there now either… > > >> I just never know when to give up hope;-). >> I am sure she would love to be in that Olliatory Stumping Ground…. >> Near that little pond…. >> If you ever see her, just let me know…?;-) > Well, I saw a turtle about 3 or 4 weeks ago, on a dirt path near an abandon > rail road… > Probably not yours anyway. I could only tell if two turtles of a same species and age were side by side: apparently the male gets to have much longer claws (like double lenght) when he is an adult. But of some species do not have that aprticulariuty, they can be told apart by colors, marks on the side of the face, etc, etc. We thought for eyars ours would be a male and female. Then thought one started growing longer claws (the one left) and had to be male then. But hard to say for sure. I know that the other one would get out regularly looking for a place to lay egs, which they do lay that they are fertilized or not, as the fertilisation happens only outside the tummy, as the male covers the eggs in the sand. Hm. Wondering now. Could then male sense eggs somwhere in the house and try and get to them?? WShoots. I can imagine 300 baby turtles running all over the place…EEEK!:):). One lost, 300 found?;-):) > > If I see it again, should I ship it to you ? > No, let the poor thing have its free life. They are not legal to have in Canada anymore, to excactly stop the importation that amde them be outside their element and live a boring life until someoen would send them in the lose and destroy entire echosystems . Those two I however had since before the law changed, and only got them exactly cause a drunk was having them in a box that woudl ahve doen lotrd knows what with them, wehre they were hurt and starved, their scales falling off all over, etc. Had them since maybe 15 years now, wehre they already were a good enough size when I had them… >> Treue, people will soon not known how to read.
