I Love JetSkis!
Question:
Harry….I only read the first paragraph of your post so that’s all I’m going to respond to. Any points you made after that were voided by your obvious lack of knowledge on the subject of jetskiing. My definition of chop is the same as yours, Harry. I can hold my throttle pinned over "1′ – 2′ foot closely spaced chop. I can beat most boats I’ve seen on the lake through the same stuff although I have a tougher time with some of the big power boats…Fountain, Warlock, Eliminator, etc….;) Jim – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I Want My Web TV… . Capt. Gary S. Colecchio West Palm Beach "Lie ? Me ? Never! No, no, no, the truth is far too much fun !" – Captain Hook Actually, there were lots of funny lines in that post: "Nothing compares with doing near 70mph across the afternoon chop!" My definition of "chop" obviously is far different than the PWC’ers. I presume he means running near 70 in a 10′ boat over little wind ripples, because if he tried that over the typical close together 1′-2′ chop I see most days, he’d launch himself into low earth orbit and break his boat in half. "Its too bad so many boaters dislike jetskis." It is too bad. It is too bad that those jetskiers who cannot behave have given themselves and their little boats such a black eye. " You never hear jetskiers say "damn them boaters!" Sure you do. Turn into rec.sports.jetski and you’ll read posts every day from PWC’ers who are shifting the blame for their problems onto conventional boaters. Or complaining that conventional boaters aren’t treated as badly as PWC’ers. "We are all in it for the same reason….relaxation, stress relieving, bikinis, and of course the "gotta have toys" thing." But most of us do it without causing everyone else on the water or at the beach a lot of stress and bother. "Its summertime……whether you have a 40ft Fountain or a 10ft WaveRaider…..smile, wave at everyone you pass, and shred the waterways!" The concept of "shred the waterways" is very, very telling. I’ve actually never heard this term used before. — Harry Krause – - – - – - – - – - – - The Borg assimilated me & all I got was this stupid T-shirt!

Thanks for the sane, unbiased opinion…some other people should take lessons from you. Jim – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Jetskiing is simply the best! Its summertime……whether you have a 40ft Fountain or a 10ft WaveRaider…..smile, wave at everyone you pass, and shred the waterways! Well, I have an old boat with a smallish outboard, so I won’t be joining you in any shredding, but I’ll be happy to wave. I have no bias against jet-skis. Anybody who is acting responsibly is ok by me regardless of what they are operating.

No, I don’t. I don’t believe you can drive a PWC at 60+ mph over what I consider 2′ chop, which consists of short, sharp waves very close together with tops 2′ off the surface Trust me on this one H. It is done all the time, and I know what 2′ is. I bought my ski just for this. Mine will only do 54-56 in those conditions, but it is still unmodified. A 2′ wave means that the top of the wave is 4′ from the bottom of the trough. Waves are measured from the middle out to the top and bottom.
That may be true in electronics, but water wave heights are usually reported from peak to trough. A 2′ chop is only 1′ from the middle out to the top and bottom. Steve — / / / / / /
Response:
Steven, Try doing 100+ on a trail that has little shutter bumps that progress into nice size mogles. You do not stay at the triple digit mark for long. I personally have not blown a belt but I have seen them go on other sleds usually Yamaha’s due to bad Priamry and Secondary clutch alignment. The sled just slows down and it makes a mess under the hood. It is really not that bad. Tight LInes and Warm Barrels.. Jeremiah Weed

A 2′ wave means that the top of the wave is 4′ from the bottom of the trough. Waves are measured from the middle out to the top and bottom. I state that it is categorically impossible to ride a jetski 60+mph in 2′chop. DAVe
Response:
We are talking about chop here, not waves. Waves are shaped differently. Chop is the same height on both sides and is measured from the normal surface of the water to the top of the chop. Oh hell, Harry… I can and I do all the time. The only problem is that I drive my jetski at 60+ mph at 1.5 to 2.5 second spurts. The rest of the time is spent slamming into waves, jerking around, tearing a brand new hole in my ass and backbone and flexing my fingers to relieve the cramping from having a death grip on my handle bars…<grin

2 foot means 2 foot. I know what I’m talking about, Harry. You don’t. I look for water with 2 foot chop. It’s the most fun to ride in.
