Question:

anyway.  Stick around, I’ve had a great four years here and am going to miss this place when I graduate in two weeks.

Here’s what you do, move to a city where there is a fairly good punk rock scene, then just live it, the stuff should come naturally, that’s what punk is all about, being yourself. If you can’t get to a big city, then visit one, visit D.C., New York, or Boston. If you visit Boston, I can help you learn about what its history has to offer you. Just basically live in the present, what difference does it make what the scene was like ten years ago? Just as long as you can be an active part of the present scene, that should be good enough…..                                       -Roderick Potts

How about just staying where ever you are and trying to create a scene out of nothing. There’s gotta be some punks no matter where you live. Big cities, pshaw! Shampoopoo and Little Nemo (and even Man or Astroman) could only have happened in a little shit hole like Auburn AL. I know you don’t know what I’m talking about, but those are some of the damn best bands of the 80’s and 90’s (maybe not M or AM?) and most people are just too wraped in trends and looks to pause and take notice. radiki pretty SNEAKY – "I get my freedom, from a bar of soap     Tried scrubbing all those rules,     but some suds wouldn’t float     smoked in the bathroom, when i was 2     I hated everything,     but I never hated you     never hated you     never hated you     cuz you stink so bad" Alternative lyrics: instead of "smoked in the bathroom…" sing "hanged out in pj’s,       in kindergarden,       threw blocks at teachers,        said "beg my pardon,        beg my pardon        my mind’s not working        it’s just startin’"  By Randy Hudson of ACOUSTOPHONIC BOUNCE/LITTLE NEMO/SHAMPOOPOO/ANTLINGS    and a dozen of other bands whose existance didn’t last longer than    one week or one show, whichever one came first. AND THAT, MY FRIENDS, IS TRUE HARDCORE, not some stupid pumped-up   muscle-neck screaming about how "hard" he is. AUburn’s Crazy Randy could take rollins easy, ‘cuz, he says "I’m a UFO"

: what do you do for fun around there? anything? i have a friend down in tampa : and he says there’s never anything to do. i’m sorry… hey, actually i’m from the tampa area when not at this wanna-be institution of higher learning. tampa’s actually not a bad place, kinda fun, and i didn’t even realize that until i came here (boston of all places). too bad bands tend to forget about us at times. oh well. angela :

C Hmmm … what does it mean to be a punk … I have no idea, just like I have no idea when I became one. I used to listen to punk music in high school but stopped litening to music almost completely in college and got a mowhawk in college. Damn, I think I know what you’r wanting to get at, but I don’t know how to respond. So let be be a little confusing. :-) Punk is about freeing your self from your old tramas Punk is about being bitter POunk is about saying fuck you to the world Punk is about not eating meat so to save the environment Punk is about saying fuck you to the jocks you always hated Punk is about acting and dressing tough(?) Punk is about non-conforming Punk is about cutting and dying your hair and wearing a laether jacket Punk is about not litening to Pop music Punk is about not letting yoursewlf listen to music signed to         a mjor record label (thank you Kurt Cobain and MRR) Punk is about hving no leaders Punk is about having no friends In short, punk is sorta about were you end up when you had no place to go. Mike have n opinion on everything

As far the Tallahassee scene (cough, cough, choke) pick up the cd by MAGIC JUAN called WILLPOWER.  Also look out for STEAMIN’ CUP O’ JOE, I think there thinking of getting back together.  Also go see EMMA, they arn’t that good but they are as punk (whatever that is) as Tally gets.           Just hang out, go to shows if you feel like it, if people don’t want accept you then they are probably not the people you want to hang with anyway.  Stick around, I’ve had a great four years here and am going to miss this place when I graduate in two weeks. rusty "<insert a creative quote" -<insert a cool name

Ever get the feeling that you just suddenly found your identity on complete accident? Since I got this account, I’ve been poking around the various Usenet groups and reading some of the posts.  I just found this group, buried in with everything else.  After reading a good portion of the material in this group, I think I may have found something about myself…   {I feel like doing an AA sort of confession right about now (hello, my name is Matt, and I’m a closet punk…), but don’t think I could word it right..  Heck, maybe I just did…} I grew up in FLint, Michigan, the son of a fairly well-to-do family headed by over protective parents {I was 14 when my mother stopped screening my music, thinking that I was *finally* old enough to do it myself…} that put my in a preppy, private school.  I guess, for lack of a better word, I was totally kept from the scene growing up.  Well, not totally…  I managed to keep a few tapes hidden from parental eyes, and a ragged VHS copy of "Another State of Mind" from my live-in censors. Of course, once I got to college, as is always predicted of hyper-repressed individuals, I came out like the proverbial bull in a china shop.  But, because I had no idea of what the hell the scene was like, I floundered.  I went to shows for a while, but was always snubbed, since I didn’t fit in with the group…. I suppose my goal of this posting is to try and catch up with the past 10 years of my life, now that I can do it without parental retribution. Would a few, brave souls mind taking a few minutes to catch me up with the scene and lifestyle?  Calling me clueless would be an understatement (I moved to Tallahassee, FLorida for college– kinda going from the frying pan to the fire in terms of no real scene– at least not one that the average passer-by could easily get into…) Talk to me about what ever comes to mind.  Politics, music, fashion, history, culture, anything……  Post here, post by email, I don’t mind either way.  Thanks. Matt

Sorry its just another sub-culture with all the other crap that comes with human interaction.  A social ladder is present, people will look down on others, and somebody will always look down on you.  Well not everything in life is perfect… but then again a few people will be accepting and you will again find a social nitch…it’s all a fram of mind and it lasts forever…… —
