Ed Hooks in Germany

Question:

Sie haben die Zeit ihr Leben Ed!  Ich freue mich, Ihre Fertigkeitanmerkungen zu lesen nach Januar. Bis Bald, Opus I’ve accepted invitations to teach Acting for Animators in Germany Dec. 6-16.  I’ll be working most of the time, but I will have one full day off in Berlin.  Anybody want to recommend favorite museums or restaurants? (During that period, I won’t be posting in alt.acting, of course — so if you have important stuff for me,  save it for when I get back, okay?) Ed Hooks

Response:

Well if you had the time to go down south, I had a great time in Heidlburg (-5Sp) and in the castles around the Rhine river valley. I never made it to Berlin but there has to be some outstanding artifacts up there. Have a great time.

I’ve always wanted to go to the Neuschwanstein Castle, but I think thats a bit far from where you’ll be. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -I’ve accepted invitations to teach Acting for Animators in Germany Dec. 6-16.  I’ll be working most of the time, but I will have one full day off in Berlin.  Anybody want to recommend favorite museums or restaurants? Thanks!  My one full-day off is Sat. Dec. 11, in Berlin.  On the 12th, I go to Stuttgart where I’ll be working all day 13-15.  Than back home on the 16th. Heidlburg sounds wonderful, but I suppose it will have to be next time. Just checked the weather over there a minute a go.  High of 43 degrees, low of 34 in Berlin.  Even colder in Stuttgart, and SNOW is forecast for this coming weekend!  I think I had better go out and buy a proper coat.  You don’t need such things in California.<g Ed – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Well if you had the time to go down south, I had a great time in Heidlburg (-5Sp) and in the castles around the Rhine river valley. That is a MAGNIFICENT castle!  Friend of mine in London sent me a photo of it in e-mail and I was mesmerized. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Have a blast! You’ll be missed! I am soooo out of the loop!  What is Ed doing in Germany!?

Response:

Since 1996, I’ve been teaching acting to animators, in addition to my regular workshops for actor.  I first worked with animators at Pacific Data Images when they were in pre-production on "Antz" and, since then, have taught at many animation companies and schools. In Germany, I’ll be teaching two days at the HFF, which is the largest film school in Germany;  then I go to Stardust Entertainment in Potsdam, a company that is doing an animated series with Hallmark.  After that, I fly to Stuttgart where I’ll teach for three days at Filmakademie Baden-Worttenberg.  Then back home for Christmas. I adore teaching animators.  Animation is a very important story-telling medium, one that is going to be even more important in the coming years.  If you haven’t seen it, I  highly recommend two animated films: "Princess Mononoke" and "Iron Giant". My next book will be for animators.  "Acting for Animators" is going to be published by Heinemann next Fall. Which reminds me, Ed.  Aren’t you supposed to have a book coming out this fall?  Did I miss an announcement? Or, have I not had enough coffee today to know what I’m talking about? ;-} Vandi Before you buy.

Response:

I’m up to my ears in writing projects, Vandi.  It’s a good thing I like to write.<g The publication date for "Acting for Animators" has skipped around a bit due to me not having it ready yet.  We’re set now for Fall 2000. Meanwhile, I’m also working on "Training the 21st Century Actor", which is supposed to be published in the Fall.  And I’m going to update "The Audition Book", adding some cyber-info.  (I’m going to talk about this newsgroup, for one thing.  Watch out LURKERS!<g) With all that book writing, I’m also still writing my now semi-infamous column in Callboard magazine each month, and I’ll soon be writing a twice-yearly by-line column for a magazine entitled "Fps" (Frames Per Seccond).  This latter has to do with the world of animation. Lot of writing….  Whew! Ed Hooks – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Which reminds me, Ed.  Aren’t you supposed to have a book coming out this fall?  Did I miss an announcement? Response:

Ed: It’s a good thing you’re verbose <BG  "Training for the 21st Century Actor" was the one I was thinking of, I suspect. I’ll keep my eye pealed for it.  Hopefully, you’ll announce it to the world when it does hit the streets. BTW, I thoroughly agreed with your comments on "Portraying a Character" in your newsletter.  [For those lurkers who haven't run across this, hit Ed's site and sign up for it.  It's free & no spam.]  I’ve run into many people with the same hangups. I’m absolutely no help on places to visit, so I’ll just say enjoy, and have fun!
