What they were thinking is that they could force a pre-teenager into acting like a trained poodle. Because this child was already attached to her mother and biological family, she naturally wasn’t going to attach to her adoptive mother they way the amom wanted her to. So she took her to obedience school, and things went a little too far. IMHO, this is a case where long-term guardianship may have been the best option. It sounds like the birthfamily of Candice was genuinely well intentioned, but just completely inept at parenting. Had Candice been placed with a long-term guardian or stable foster home, but allowed to remain in frequent contact with her birthfamily, this situation would have had a much happier ending.
