TV Goes Fire-Rescue Crazy!

The days grow shorter – school begins soon and broadcast TV introduces its new schedule. There’s not much new to report about Mother Nature or teachers – but this Fall’s TV programming roster will include a number of new shows dealing with a subject rarely touched by the big boys – Fire, Rescue and EMS. First off, there’s "Rescue-77", the first fire-rescue series since 1996’s ill- fated Fox series "LA Firefighters". Unlike "LAF" though, the producers at Spelling Entertainment hope to serve up the real nitty gritty of Emergency work when the series make the airwaves in late October. The show centers around Station-77’s EMS-Rescue crew, a three-person paramedic team made-up of "seasoned" firefighters Michael Bell (Victor Browne), Wick Lobo (Christian Kane) and Kathleen Ryan (Marjorie Monaghan). Commanding Station-77 as Captain Dufree is veteran actor Richard Roundtree, who began his TV acting career as a rookie firefighter in the 70’s ABC series, "Firehouse". Sharing the credit of Executive Producer for "Rescue-77" is former firefighter Greg Widen, whose runaway box office hit, "Backdraft" gave new meaning to the word "Axe".
