Uncle V and completely unrelated: Bill Gates

Question:

PPPPPS:  Did anyone read the Bill Gates Time article?  Thoughts?  I was depressed for a few minutes thinking about the waste of my brain over the years, then realized well, I’m probably pursuing what I Really Want, amidst all this frustration (as vs. HUUUUGE success, as in his case!) -Kam

since when is success measured in $$$$$$$

Response:

I used the Mamet version of THREE SISTERS for an undergrad production a couple of years ago.  Yes, I disagreed with some of what he did.  But I just changed what I wanted to, based on having studied and read 5 or 6 different translations.  I have heard from reliable sources – friends – that the Mamet VANYA is troublesome, but hey, Andre Gregory and Wallace Shawn did OK with it with VANYA ON 42ND STREET.  And did you get a load of Jullianne Moore as Yelena?  Was she astonishing, or what?   Didn’t see the Time article, Kam.  Could you paraphrase it for us? OKBYE —— Andy P.S.  I actually wrote to David Mamet, care of his publisher, asking him about a page and a half of questions about his version of 3S.  I got a response!  He sent me his business card and on the back it said, "Mr. Garrison —  There’re these three girls, see.. — Best, D.M."  My best guess is that he meant, "Just tell the damned story, ya know?"                                 * * * * * [This message was posted to the ACTING-L mailing list and relayed to this newsgroup.  You may followup to the newsgroup or, if you are a  member of ACTING-L,  reply  to  the  list.   For  more  information  send E-mail to

Andy and all:  Mamet’s translation (which makes me very wary!) but so far has read OK.  (non-commital ‘OK’) Venue:  You mean where?  I think at the Actor’s Studio, well, just a rehearsal/performance studio on 19th St.  It’s actually pretty nice, though.
