Weird mirror thing

Question:

I do this weekly class where there’s a big wall full of mirrors opposite where we all sit. God, that’s tough. Every time I look across, there’s me in the mirror looking really awkward, I can’t seem to get myself sitting in a position that looks natural. But on the plus side, the mirrors don’t quite line up so sitting opposite one of the joins it’s possible to look across and see yourself reflected twice – when this happens, sometimes I catch a glimpse of the other reflection of myself and because I’ve just been looking at one reflection of myself, for a moment I don’t realise it’s me again, and see myself as though I were looking at somebody else – and when that happens, just for that moment before I realise, I don’t look bad. Then when I realise I look really awkward again… Ollie

I wish I could think of a funny reply to this, but it’s actually very touching. One of those moments that should be in a movie. Perhaps you could practice at home. I mean looking in a mirror at yourself. Just stand there. Maybe get used to how you look? Yes, it will be very uncomfortable and you’ll feel silly, but it may be one way to get comfortable in one’s own skin. Worth a try. I don’t know why, but I usually smile at myself in the mirror. It’s never been a conscious effort. Strange. Last night I found myself trying to see if I could look at other people in the mirrors the way that I look at myself, and see if they would look just as awkward… I was kind of beginning to see it… Ollie

It’s an acting class. The mirrors are just because the room we use for it is also used as a dance studio. Anyway I guess it’s good that we sit facing the mirrors, because the alternative would be to *perform* facing the mirrors, and that would just be *too* freaky… Ollie

Seeing myself in a mirror give me a good evaluation of my level of stress and/or selfesteem. When I’m alone, in a safe place, like in the bathroom I usually see in the mirror an attractive normal person. But when I’m stressed, uncondifent, in a public place like the subway for example, when I look at myslef in windows I see myself as a bloody akward person. When I feel good, even in a public place, then I sometimes can see a normal person (normal but not yet attractive…) I remember, 2 years ago, I still had a permanent very low self esteem, and even in my bathroom I was always seeing myself as a bloody unactractive akward person ! How do you see yourself in a mirror ? Tom "Ollie" <B…@B.com> wrote in message

Keep doing things like that. Well, just don’t stare at people so they want to get a restraining order, but you know what I mean. Be an observer of people, of life. It can teach you a lot. Try to catch others watching themselves, like when they pass a window on the street. You’ll see some interesting stuff. Also, walk thru a mall sometime, or a crowded street, any large public venue. Catch the eye, just for a moment, of the people walking the other way, toward but away from you. Catch their eye, just for a moment. You’ll see a lot. I really do believe in that saying, "the eyes are the window to the soul". Some people immediately pull down an invisible veil when they see you. They keep their souls hidden. Others leave theirs hanging out, like old wash in the wind…… Wow. whoa, ok, I’m back. Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

i do the same thing at home. I have a mirror that folds out into a medicine cabinet and i watch myself looking at my reflection all the time. It’s weird because it shows you how other’s see you.

That’s interesting. At that moment, do you do anything different externally, or is it only your perceptions that change? — Seven Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
