Hmmm, that was Lon Chaney Jr., whose real name was ‘Fred Chaney’ or something like that. He, or the movie studio, used the "junior" as some kind of cachet, as his father, the actual Lon Chaney, was indeed "The Man of a Thousand Faces". I don’t think was ever in a sound film. Probably the most well-known role today was his appearance as the hunchback in a 1928 version (maybe) of "Hunchback…." Seems like I’ve seen a the same still photo of him in make-up many times. I have an MST3K episode "The Indestructible Man" and that geezer is in it, and believe me, I can see even in the advanced state of his career at the time that film was made, how that bloke had the sort of face that could be adaptable to this that and the other. If it is the actor I am thinking of, like all actors he wore make up. But in those days they had nothign to make the face look larger here and there, where he did it by siumply contracting this mucle, raising that one, lwoerign that other, where a documentary I saw on that actor made me then think "??? you eman there are others like me????". They refered to him as "metamorphe" cause of his uncanny ability. A clip showed him in action off stage, making those various faces of different monsters he played, without the make up. Truely uncanny!:) Dunnif the same actor you name,d though. I more recently heard of soem female actress that also apparently ahd that ability to change faces that way. Mayeb oen of them is my natural dad or cousin or something?:) Maybe my natural dad worked in a circus?????? Maybe you’re thinking of Lon Chaney, the man of a thousand faces ?
Response:
Maybe she means Lon Chaney The Elder? I don’t know if I want to see those Universal pictures again. I haven’t seen any since I was a bratling, I try to avoid thinking about my childhood–or adolescence–anytime since before breakfast. I wouldn’t mind getting all of Dario Argento’s stuff, though. Maybe some day. "HumungousFungusAmongUs" <omega.po…@nowhere.com> wrote in message
