What is "amp farm"?
Question:
In related film news.. Did you know that there is a movie based on a book called ‘Animal Farm’ -with a vaguely similar plot-finished and about to be released? For real.
I know of the book of course…. I don’t know how it could be made into a movie without looking like a Pink Floyd video, though. fairly big money spent on special effects. So there is a small promo campaign on TV etc…I would think the most optimistic people behind it
Unfortunately, tt’ll never show in my town I’m sure. Nothing unsettling would be allowed here…. But they let You live…..never mind. I understand now. This internet stuff will kept secret, of course. Little do they know. However- Continued Vigilence is recommended. It must be difficult maintaining ‘approved attitude.’ Or perhaps you use the ’somewhat insane, but harmless’ approach. I’ve deal with a similar situations here and have used both methods and variations. I’m currently "a member." My real work is far too dangerous for me to cause waves. ROTFLMAO It is a book, soon to be adapted for network tv, about an imaginary place where what kind of amp you use represents an analog to a socio/political archetype. At the end of the book, the Marshalls and the Fenders end up cooperating, and with the help of the Boogies and Voxes they defeat the Evil Amp Modeller, which is a metaphor for the generic corporate archetype the average person thinks he/she needs to be in our Modern Society.

You take two pieces of glass & build a sealed frame that holds them about 1/4" apart (but it’s gotta have a way for air to get in). Put sand in there so it’s about half full. Get a bunch of amps & drop ‘em in there to watch ‘em dig tunnels. Drop a little sugar in there once in a while to feed ‘em. What exactly is this "amp farm" thing I keep hearing about? Could someone explain to me how it works.

I got my info from someone on the set. I’ll pass along the suggestion..it’s ‘fitting’ and there’s still time. Apparently there is a major reshoot due to reaction (or non-reaction) from kids at the test screenings. Since they Really Need to get Arnold now-they figure having him level Los Angeles for Any reason is good box office. They can change the name, no big deal. I thought there might be a small glitch with the name but it’ll be fine…the tube amp group battling Tech 21/Sans amp in NYC, is the token "ironically worse than the enemy" neo-fascist ‘Boogie Nazi’s’. As great a name as that might be for a biker (or rock) group, they are standard fare nazi types- uniforms, heavy protocol including death for insubordinaton etc. They are (typically) a group made up of confused followers of an insane but charismatic leader-"Mark IV" (Brad Pitt, trying to stretch *as much as he can* acting-wise)-who has risen to power by assassinating his brothers, Marks I through III (including the Mark II ‘triplets’.) They are one of they few organized tube groups to be unsuccessful (natch) as they are destroyed from within, aided by rogue Boogie’s and Mesa’s: the Blue Angel, the HeartBreaker and a couple of defectors (DC’s who are having identity crises.’) In true Hollywood style, Mark IV, and later Tech 21 both see their demise at the hands of the small but mighty "Subway Blues," who was never taken seriously, unable to join any major or splinter group. ‘Subway’ (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, in a brilliant ‘multiple base hitting’ casting coup) is able to gain access to the central power figures through stealth and when needed, ‘doing the jail-bait’ thing.’ She emerges a true hero. My friend on the set says the Gellar/Boogie/NYC scenes are the only ones that are considered completed-there was apparently cheering in the theatres when the battle scarred, and by this point, semi nude Gellar finishes off a ‘distracted’ Mark IV with a small Baretta hidden in her torn shorts (he is staring at what is left of her ’strategically ripped’ camo tank top). In related film news.. Did you know that there is a movie based on a book called ‘Animal Farm’ -with a vaguely similar plot-finished and about to be released? For real. Movies released at this time of year-after Labor Day, too early for the Holiday rush are generally considered ‘kiss of death’ releases, and no one expects much of them. Translating the allegorical classic ‘Animal Farm’ (even with heavy simplification) to the big screen had to be challenging and the result movie will probably require audiences to actually ‘think.’ This usually spells doom for a movie these days. Even talking pigs screaming "The only good human is a dead one," can only hold a typical ‘End of the Millenium’ audiences’ attention for a little while. Since the animals ‘talk’ and are main actors, there was obviously some fairly big money spent on special effects. So there is a small promo campaign on TV etc…I would think the most optimistic people behind it are hoping it turns into a ’sleeper hit.’ But it’s end of Sept release means the major studios don’t. This is the time of year when studios clear the shelves of non-hit product(saving the next mega-hits for the Thanksgiving-Christmas timeframe). They have to give the theatres some ‘new product’ every week to release, now is traditionnaly a ‘low expectations’ time. I predict limited wide release, going quickly to second run houses, then video. It’s the fate of many movies based on classics, which are not ‘just entertainment.’ Many do better produced directly for TV, where they can be mini-series and use more of the book. I’ve been known to be wrong on some of these predictions…and other things:) Steve (pls put my 10 points in the millenium party fund:) "Wait! That’s Exactly what they want us to believe…" http://homestead.deja.com/user.steve_2000/steve_2000.html Share what you know. Learn what you don’t.

Amp Farm is the entire modelling software, and is said to be superior to those in their Flextone/AX2/PODs. It is proprietary – you have to have a Pro Tools recording system to use it. The program used to program the POD is called something else… but I forget what it is. It comes free with the POD, IIRC. Richard

I have been following the pre release publicity on the upcoming mini-series with anticipation. I was especially interested when Leonardo De Caprio was bumped from one of the lead roles for being too fat or high. Think he was originally cast as opposition leader "Sir Plexi, Duke of Tone", a real tube rebel. Although it might have been one of the other alliance leaders, like the biker dude- "Freddy" Fender, who’s character name was leaked and subsequently changed when legal action was brought by the real Freddy Fender’s management, even though it’s a stage name. The biker character, now called ‘Vintage Deluxe’, is apparently an American rebel leader, based in LA and in charge of taking down Line 6, as well as a few synthesizer/software companies-and some major record label executives in the resulting ‘accidental’ crossfire. I believe Arnold Schwarznegger is being approached for the part. His salary will eat up a lot of budget, but the producers feel if they can land him, they won’t need to cast an LA rebel army, just hire some good special effects guys-and he can take the town apart by himself. Like many appocalyptic movies, the series has a somewhat global setting, with the main action taking place at the various countries/locations where major tube amps or modelers are made. Major battle scenes near Salt Lake City, where a rag tag group of tube rebels allegorically representing ‘tube amp owners everywhere’ and led by a "normal guy" actor (think it’s Kevin Costner) is fighting the good fight against multi-effect unit/pedal ‘preamp’ maker and now ‘quasi-Modeling’ mega-giant: Digitech/Johnson. The rebels are outmanned and out gunned-but (sorry to give away the plot) they manage to win (barely) because the huge Utah Monster’s forces are being led by Donny Osmond, playing to type as an ‘I don’t know why I’m here’ character with no discernable talent for anything, including leading an army. (His family are listed in the credits as ‘co-executive producers’ on the show and this probably led to his being cast. Also a couple weird out of place minor scenes in Branson Missouri…whatever. You gotta finance a picture Somehow.) The Japanese scenes have some of the best physical action as a group of mercenaries led by Jackie Chan is hired with money from a huge secret Warchest funded by the Boutique and other ‘high end-ultra high price’ tube amp makers-you know who you are-who, it turns out, really have been severely overcharging for their amps…hmmm. Chan and company take on Roland and Yamaha in a martial arts extraganza. The initial plot had the tube amp companies winning out over the Evil Amp Modeler in an old fashioned "Independence Day" type sci-fi movie with a little message. Unfortunately test screenings at the target demographic audience-teenagers and young adults-met with very mixed results. This generation, raised in the digital age on computers/games/the internet, and listening to music featuring hypersaturated fuzz guitar tones and looped rhythms edited into ’songs’ with Pro-Tools-couldn’t understand why the Modeler was the Villain, or-really-Why Anyone Cared. The producers have recalled the key actors and at least the ending is being re-shot, perhaps other major plot twists. The mini-series has been pushed back to at least January… Steve — "Wait! The ‘Amp Farm’ is a Line 6 software plugin for Digidesign’s Pro Tools computer based digital recording program. The beauty of the amp farm is that you can record a guitar track clean and then audition which amp you want to use during mixdown. If you don’t like the Fender tones and want more crunch you just switch to the Marshall. With digital automation you can even switch amps in the middle of a track (how about a nice clean Fender for the verse but a toothy Vox for the leads and Marshall grind for the chorus?). The amps available are similar to (the same as?) the ones available in Line 6’s Flextone series of digital amplifiers.
