Hate

Question:

Me either. And even if you were Vali I wouldn’t hate you because I don’t hate Vali either. I try not to hate anyone. Hate is born of fear, fear is born of ignorance.

what horseshit.  as if there were nothing in the world to be afraid of.

I used to enjoy posting anonymously, but now I find that posting under my real name encourages me to think out my responses with more care.  I do not mean to imply anything against anonymous posting, nor do I mean to imply that anonymous posting is done only by haphazard-minded people.  I was only commenting on my own experiences and hope that some anonymous posters eventually feel comfortable coming out and posting under true identities. At any rate, back in American history we kidnapped the black race from Africa, beat and tortured their people, and shipped them to America, the land of the free, to have a price put on their head and sold as slaves to white upper and middle class citizens.  I, like many people here, am of caucasian descent, and probably have ancestors who were among those who partook in the crimes committed against the black race and at times am sickened by my heritage. It was stated that Hate was born of Fear, Fear born of Ignorance.  These slaves feared their masters, as I understand it to be in the general case, because if one person got out of line, they would be punished.  To further motivate them to work, masters would also harm the slave’s wife and children, who in turn learned to fear the master.  This fear was obviously directly caused by physical pain, and I’m sure many slaves (if not most) hated their masters.  But was this fear sprung from ignorance?  As I understand my history, and I could be wrong, we simply invaded the African territories by brute force and by similar methods of instilling fear (brutality, massacres, fire, dismemberment of women and children), forced the black race into chains on ships and sailed them to our continent.   Was the black man’s ignorance of the technology and weapons of the white man the basic cause of his fear?  It probably had something to do with it.  What amazes me about this ugly period of our history (that is oft glanced over in the primary education system of our nation and swept under the carpet while we concentrate on the highlights of our nation’s history) is how so many Americans were convinced into believing that what was going on was actually OKAY. This group of Americans was concentrated in the South.  Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, Mississippi, states like that.  I wonder why this was so?  I don’t have the answers.  Why was the North, in general, opposed to slavery, while the South, in general, thought it was okay? To be sure, there was much financial gain to be sought by slave labor and profits soared in the south from the toils of the black man for a country that crushed his soul and tried to take his religion, his culture, and his God.  Was it the profits that brainwashed the people of the South into spreading rumors about the inferiority of the black race?   The question of whether or not true artificial intellegence is possible arises in the current academic world.  If we are in fact able to construct computers capable of being creative, of having free will, of evolving – then who is to say that computers won’t evolve to discover that humans are inferior to them and that, in order to attain a more efficient economy, that all beings below par in ability with reference to the machines, should not be eliminated or degraded in similar fashions?  It’s an interesting chain of events to consider, at least. eric —  __.o,____  Go, Lil’ Racer! * Eric C. Actually the fear came from knowing what the technology could do. <Snip This group of Americans was concentrated in the South.  Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, Mississippi, states like that.  I wonder why this was so?

Economics, the south was more agriculturally based.  Plantations and slaves went hand in hand. I don’t have the answers.  Why was the North, in general, opposed to slavery, while the South, in general, thought it was okay?

Don’t know, because most northerners didn’t consider blacks to be the equals of whites.

No, the inferiority myth preceded slavery and excused it.  Part of the "White man’s burden bullshit" The question of whether or not true artificial intellegence is possible arises in the current academic world. It’s an interesting chain of events to consider, at least. eric

time to remember the one advantage we have over computers, mobility, and mark out the power plants we will have to destroy.  Seriously though, what would the computer gain from such a thing?  The missing ingredient is greed. —  __.O,____  Go, Lil’ Racer! * Eric C. Response:

Eric, Blacks in ancient history were not necessarily looked down upon.  It wasn’t until the later middle ages and the Rennaisance that the attitude that some people (racism/bigotry) have towards black people came about. In ancient history many races of all colours mixed about. As far as technology goes, one only has to look to Egypt to know that Africans did understand technology and had a very highly developed culture & civilization.  This is true to the present date in Africa.   Like many European cultures/tribes, some African tribes were more technologically advanced than others.  But when it became economically expedient, white culture decided to perpetuate lies and myths about black people calling them "ignorant" and "uncivilised", so that they could justify selling them as slaves. The white culture also did this to white people at the time, and as recently as the 18th & 19th century, Irish children were shipped to the Carribean as "workers" (which meant slave).  The Irish were called similar names, and in the south of Ireland, they could not vote, if they were Catholic or be landowners, until the 19th century. By the way I’m white and of protestant-Irish background, but I thankfully had a mum who took me to Canada to be raised in a multicultural society. I’m very grateful that I grew up here, without so much of the hatred that still exists in much of this world (Middle East, Ireland, and much of Northern Africa) .  There are too many people who are killing each other in this world or hating each other because of so called "differences".  I do not see different people as bad or scary. How could we not be different from each other?  We are all, after all, separate individuals.  How can I hate or dislike someone because of them being different from myself? I would end up hating the whole world!!! I am not naieve.  I am a realist who does not see anyone as better or less than anyone else for any reason.  We are all different from each other, so what! Why are people so full of hatred???? — – Ceridwyn

I have thunked on this also and have developed the ‘Totem Pole Theory’.  Nobody wants to be the low man on the totem pole, standing in the muck.  There must be someone lower than you to stand on, even if it is only psychological.   Insecure people need someone to whom they feel superior.  Their hatred is directly proportionate to how insecure they actually feel.   "I am not a bigot, I hate everyone equally." ;-) Hexe

Response:

Where I used to work, a group of people (a clique) would choose a new person or sometimes a person who’s been there a while and would talk about how much they hate them.  They would work themselves up into a frenzy.  They would get all this rage energy.  It seemed their only source of motivation.  Once in a while, I was the target of it.  I can honestly say it ruined my career there.
