Question:
I am working on creating a defensive servitor and would greatly appreciate any suggestions anyone has, as I have never done this sort of working before. I’m currently learning sigils and planetary correspondences, but feel a bit lost. Has anyone on the group ever done this before? If so, any helpful suggestions?

Do a tarot reading. Even if the tarot reading doesn’t work out, perhaps you can do a different sigil, or tweak the servitor. Then do another reading. Do this until you have it all sorted out. This will allow you to understand the energies behind such a working, what you need, what you really don’t need. Sometimes it surprises you.

When did you take up chaos magick, donut girl? You don’t "tweak" servitors unless you want your ass "tweaked" in returned. So how many times a week do you like your NASCAR studs to "ass drive" you, Talesin? P.S. Let us address the original question. .) Do not call these beings "servitors". Later you will name them with "names of power" which will allow your creations to connect with more ancient and powerful thought forms. .) Do you have roleplaying experience? Use a character reference sheet to outline the qualities you want your "guardians" to have. .) I have used a few formulas to summon two creatures with these traits. Traits The body and face of a lion. The wings of an eagle. The tail of a boa. Defenses red Kevlar skin under titanium fish scales. red egg shaped shield of energy. Attacks energy drain thought implanting Their tails are permanently attached to my upper back. When I send them out I am able to remotely view through their eyes and receive other data and energy from them. When they return to me they take the form of wings.

I will have to try that. Thanks! Seems like it would simplify it a great deal….so I don’t have to waste time and energy on things that aren’t needed.

So, do you think I should name it after a God or powerful being? Would a made up name that sounds "scary and powerful" work as well? Use a character reference sheet to outline the qualities you want your "guardians" to have.
I have been thinking about this. I definately want to give it a sense of humor. I have been considering traits. The purpose of this servitor would be to drive away some very dangerous people from my and many other’s lives. I have considered having it do things to frighten and intimidate- to scare them away. Perhaps something with a ghoulish appearance. Something that can walk through walls and is capable of moving objects. Do you think this can work? When they return to me they take the form of wings.
Is it possible to allow the servitor to kind of hang around doing it’s thing indefinately, or should it always be called back after acting? Thanks to you and all the others for your suggestions. Very appreciated.

Of course I wouldn’t really call it "excellent". I think it’s from page 50 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide.
I found the remains of my old AD & D Player’s book, formerly stored in the non secured garage , shredded in the backyard the other day…… Looks like the hounds found them and had their way with them, the remorseless chewing – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

Did they get rid of that in Third Edition? I’m so behind the times. Though, Wizards of the Coast really has no right to dictate AD&D rules, even though they did buy TSR.
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – What’s their THAC0 and AC? THAC0? Parse, that’s SOOOO Second Edition. J. Eiler I’m hiding at hotmail to avoid spam. Please change "nospam.net" to "hotmail.com" to send me e-mail.

I wanted it for protection from a very specific source anyway.
Well then, perhaps you are looking for a very specific servitor — Talesin- The Bad Boy of Witchcraft ™ http://home.kc.rr.com/pendragonsloft "If we are here to help others, exactly what are others here for?" - George Carlin

What’s their THAC0 and AC? I’m pretty sure my wand of fireballs would make short work of them.

Personally, I do the reverse. I call it a "magick enema". Does wonders.

how about giving it a protecting name?
Glinda? *snort* If I was to create something like this, I would give it a duty, a time line, and commands telling it what to do when it has completed the task, and if it can not complete the task – back up measures or releases.
This was suggested to me as well-(thanks Nightshade) to give it an option when the job is done, either dissolve and go back to where it came from, or allow it to remain and protect under certain stipulations. I liked the idea of it being able to continue on helping others. Be careful to not do something that will cause you to fixate overly much.
I will definately keep this in mind. This might not make sense, but keep a journal of what happens. Maybe you can report back to us, and tell us how it went. Maybe you will have a good story.
I certainly will do this! If anything, it would be educational for others to learn all the different sorts of things servitors are capable of doing.
Remember, you can always tweak before hand..
LOL, wouldn’t it be more fun to tweak Talesin?

yes, it can walk through walls, of course. Is it possible to allow the servitor to kind of hang around doing it’s thing indefinately, or should it always be called back after acting?
It depends on your method. Ren sounds like he is suggesting a long term relationship. If I was to create something like this, I would give it a duty, a time line, and commands telling it what to do when it has completed the task, and if it can not complete the task – back up measures or releases. Also, state what sort of protection you would want. You wouldn’t want a long-term-something that you can’t call back, especially if it is hurting people around you. Things change, energies change, your ideas change (as to what is important to you, and what you think is going on), your situation and needs will change. Keep this in mind, always. Perhaps you might consider a short term goal for now, so that you can see if you are pleased with the results, rather then a long term one that may not meet your requirements of a later date. A short term helper, may get the job done, rather nicely. These are my opinions, others will think completely differently then me, on this issue. Thanks to you and all the others for your suggestions. Very appreciated.
No problem. Be careful to not do something that will cause you to fixate overly much. For instance, if you are creating something to help protect you, it would be nice to feel safe enough to walk away and forget about it, rather then, causing a part of you, to be always out there on the astral, watching and worrying. This might not make sense, but keep a journal of what happens. Maybe you can report back to us, and tell us how it went. Maybe you will have a good story.

Or waste time and energy on fixing something you thought would be great, but realized later, that you REALLY don’t want.
You are very welcome. Good magick.
