Dreams that will never come true.
Question:
I’d love to be a Broadway dancer , but being an ugly, short male there really isn’t much out there for me. Instead, I’m stuck behind a computer doing something only because it puts food on the table and only because I "can" do it. I have the confidence, the drive, and the self-esteem, but I know that I’d probably never make it as anything other than a stand-up comic or a "bad date" character in TV sitcoms. Some people just get dealt a shit hand.
Response:

Give it a try. They need people of every size in broadway shows and most put on many coats of makeup in their shows so how you look doesnt matter as much. Dreams do come true if you REALLY try with a positive attitude. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Instead, I’m stuck behind a computer doing >something only because it puts food on the table and only because I "can" do >it. Write a musical about short ugly males and insist you get the lead. Ok slightly facetious but not all musicals are about beautiful tall people. Go for it if you’re serious. If your dealt a shit hand don’t play it. Mook

I’m not a writer. Ok >slightly facetious but not all musicals are about beautiful tall people. Go >for it if you’re serious. If your dealt a shit hand don’t play it.
I have. Always the extra, never the lead.

Jason Alexander is another. I believe he does a lot of Broadway work, as well.

He’s a movie actor, not a broadway dancer.

It’s not impossible, just improbable. The truth is that I’ll never get any of the leads that I want. And if I did, the audience probably wouldn’t buy it anyway, no matter how talented I was. I have confidence, but if someone isn’t right for a part, they’re not right for a part. You can’t have Jason Alexander playing, say…Rhett Butler.

I think most actors suffer from that. > And if I did, the audience probably > wouldn’t buy it anyway, no matter how talented I was. I have > confidence, but if someone isn’t right for a part, they’re not right > for a part. You can’t have Jason Alexander playing, say…Rhett > Butler.
Maybe. Maybe not. I bet he’d do a good job with it, though.
