Aussie actors for Sydney Macbeth
Question:
You don’t like Bell Shakespeare’s productions then? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Am looking for experienced actors to take part in a production of Macbeth I want to direct this year. I am sick of seeing Shakespeare being done badly and then being praised to the hilt. (eg the Sydney Theatre Company’s boring production last year with Colin Friels) To be involved, you’d have to be willing to find a way of doing the text as if it was real speech, not a load of words that mean nothing to you. You’ll also have to be very flexible and capable of doing a speech in a variety of ways. As far as I’m concerned it’s not that hard to do this if you take the time to think before and while you speak. (As all of us do off stage all the time.) I should also tell you that I’m going to play Macbeth and co-direct with an actor who will play Malcolm. In other words, neither of those parts are available and you’ll have to be able to cope with a director who is acting with you. At this stage, all other parts are open. The production details – venue, timing – etc are not fixed at all. But this is something I will definitely do. So if you want to know more, send me an email. Simon Doctor
