Tennessee Williams

Question:

Claude: About three years ago my wife and I opened a new theatre here in Calgary,Canada with "Talk to me like the rain". The set was simple with a bed and a clock and gross stained sheets. We both were down to our undies-white of course- and the lighting was stark and white. It was like watching badly edited b&W film. Stark and jarring. I must admit I love the b&w thing on stage. I directed a production of Miss Julie and I had the actors paint their faces white. It sounds weird but it really was successful! The great thing about this production {Talk to me…} was it hadn’t been seen in Calgary for years and years. To us it was like we were opening a new Tennessee Williams piece. The audience really connected to it. People would be crying through the final speech. It was erie for me because I was asleep in the bed and you could hear people weeping to themselves. I have never experienced anything like that before! As for making him French, I’m not sure.  Perhaps french romantics  don’t hang out in bath tubs full of Miller High Life Beer?I don’t know! My biggest belief is what does it say in the text. Find this and you can find your own production. Didn’t Peter Brook once say the Truth in the theatre is always on the move. Have fun and let us know whow it went. Richard Suspicions amongst thoughts are like bats amongst birds, they ever fly by twilight! Francis Bacon but probably Shakespeare right?                                 * * * * * [This message was posted to the ACTING-L mailing list and relayed to this newsgroup.  You may followup to the newsgroup or, if you are a  member of ACTING-L,  reply  to  the  list.   For  more  information  send E-mail to

I just got cast as the man in "Talk to Me Like the Rain And Let Me = Listen…"  written by Tennessee Williams.  I was looking for = information anyone might have about the characters, moods, tone, T. = Williams, and the time period that might be helpful in interpreting the = character.  Our director is toying with a number of ideas, including = making the man a French lover of an American lady living in Manhattan, = or two white trash – rednecks in a big city for their first time.  Any = suggestions I could pass on to him would be helpful too. Thanks, Claude                                 * * * * * [This message was posted to the ACTING-L mailing list and relayed to this newsgroup.  You may followup to the newsgroup or, if you are a  member of ACTING-L,  reply  to  the  list.   For  more  information  send E-mail to
