Some Fine Specimens On Display At RSG Atlanta

Question:

BTW I’m playing at Vic today

Really! You will probably see a young member from Whittlesea who is also going round there today…he is also a member at Vic. He is 6′ 4", aged about 17 y.o. , plays off <2 hcp and will be playing with my Integra 450cc on a bright blue & yellow UST proforce 65 shaft. Looks like a football on a stick…he hits it a mile, and it sounds like a badly tuned 44 gallon drum! cheers david — "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler" –  Albert Einstein Remove extra dot com from address

Response:

A small difference between the two courses….membership entry at Hidden Valley approx. AUD$6-8000 (not sure of annual dues)…redeemable membership entry at Heritage approx AUD$32,000 (yes, thirty two thousand!), annual dues about $1800+ (said to track average of fees at five top Melbourne Clubs). You can also buy a redeemable ‘life membership’ at Heritage, with no annual dues, for approximately $83,000. If your friends are close to the freeways Hidden Valley is easy to get to…only 45 minutes or so via the Ringroad freeway and the Hume! ‘Heritage’ is only about 10 minutes from my home, but for obvious reasons I would prefer to play ‘Hidden Valley’ !!

Hidden Valley is A$8000 share purchase with A$1100 annual dues for 7-day membership. I guess if you bought now you’d get in well on the ground floor. The course can only improve, but I wouldn’t expect outstanding conditions for at least a couple of years. BTW, I see Keysborough were offering a limited number (17) of 7-day memberships ("share" basis) for A$12,000 each the other day, plus annual dues. OTOH, for A$66 joining fee and A$210 annual dues you can easily drive an hour and a bit through CityLink, up the Calder Freeway (Woodend bypass open in September) and play Trentham. Now let’s see … that’s 43 years of golf for the same price as the first year at Hidden Valley, 160 years for the first year at Heritage! :-) :-) Cheers Colin Wilson RSG Roll Call: http://u1.netgate.net/~kirby34/rsg/wilsonc.htm Trentham Golf Club: http://www.trenthamgolf.com

Response:

Then again I can’t talk being 167cm (5′6") and just short of 90 kilos. (Just less than 200 pounds for the metrically challenged), although my RSG outing with Colin gave us an average 180cm and about 80 k’s

Believe it or not, I weigh a little more than you (90kg)! BTW Colin I have a mate who likes the Hidden Valley course and wants to become a member, though given that he lives in the outer east of Melbourne I’m trying to get him to join Heritage.

You’ll find a considerable price difference, Hidden Valley being much cheaper. Cheers Colin Wilson RSG Roll Call: http://u1.netgate.net/~kirby34/rsg/wilsonc.htm Trentham Golf Club: http://www.trenthamgolf.com

Yeah I know, but *I* want to play at Heritage, anyone can get a free game at Hidden Valley. For $32000 he can sell the Bimmer. :-) BTW I’m playing at Vic today and the skies are blue (yes!), as opposed to an hour ago.

When I looked at the photos on Randy’s web site my initial impression was – this is a tunamint for middle aged (and that’s generous for some of the participants) white guys. On closer inspection the mid-swing pictures revealed a particularly flatering splendid collection of bellies in all there distended glory. And I thought this was an event for athletes! Clearly many of the participants spend too much time infront of computer screens and/or on bar stools. Bar stool AND computer screen for me :-) But mostly a bar stool <g

It was funny, when I looked at the  pictures I thought of the thread that asked — what is the average weight of a U.S Open Gallery?  and thought what is the average weight of an R.S.G outing? :-) . I must read Hogan again, but I got the impression that this was an advantage, a near fundamental perhaps, as he used the body mass in order to create club-head speed and hence driving distance.  Laura Davis and Craig Stadler, for eg, have been fabulous top class players, and looked they nothing like Woods, Els, Garcia, Parnevic, ollie… & co.. — F. ;-)
